Lingo broadband phone services use VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol technology to make phone calls. You do not need a phone line or a phone company to use Lingo.
Once your Lingo adaptor arrives, you connect it between your cable modem and computer (see illustration above). Plug in your existing phone or any standard phone into the Lingo adaptor. Then you make calls as you normally would using any other service.
The adaptor digitizes your voice into data packets and sends it over the internet. Once your call reaches the receiving end, these packets are converted back into the sound of your voice.
